unicorns and rainbows mix strangely
in a confetti burst of sparkles and shattered dancing colors
to form awkward confections
brilliant flowers adorn living topiary
regarding the world solemnly with glassy metallic eyes hidden in the shadow of a velvety             
          green leaf

                               placed -  

                                                   - just so

the eyes are the only part that don’t gleam fantastic
they radiate instead a black bitter coldness
born of disgruntled raindrops suspended far too long at the margin of space and sky
frozen entirely in that one perspective of looking down
unable to change with their re-entry into the cycle
and captured again in the incandescent transformation

fusion with the animate

but still the colors shift constantly all around
fighting constantly the disambiguation
flowing sinuously through the spectrum
across flowers, bridging gaps to create the
seamless whole

a rainbow, the bright refraction
a unicorn, the earthly sorrow
mixed uncaringly and placed –

on a whim

like an ornament

to look pretty

in a garden.

This war of life and immortality
preserved forever

only

a bauble.
